St. Paul wrote that he would rather speak five words of understanding than 10,000 words in a tongue. This VBS program teaches the five words of the ICHTHUS, Greek for "fish." Christians used the fish symbol because the five letters that spell out I CH TH U S [CH and TH are one letter in Greek!] are the first letters of the confession, "Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior." This VBS program teaches the Gospel according to these words. Water flows through each lesson, drawing thirsty children into the waters of Holy Baptism. Here is a summary of the lessons for the five days:
- Day One: "Caught in His Net." (Luke 5: 1-10)
- Day Two: "Save Me!" (Matthew 14: 22-23, Jesus saves Peter from the waves)
- Day Three: "Anointed." (Luke 3-4, Jesus is baptized and rules over the devil)
- Day Four: "Who can this be?" (Matthew 8: 23-27, Jesus is God and has power over the waves)
- Day Five: "Baptized and Saved" (Mark 15 & Acts 2, Baptism now saves us)
