Lord, Have Mercy

The “Kyrie Eleison,” or “Lord, have mercy,” is one of the most beautiful parts of the Divine Service. Through these words, the Lord puts on our lips the words of those in the Gospels who petitioned Him for mercy. These words serve as an excellent foundation for the remainder of the Divine Service. As our Lord “walks by” at the altar and in the preaching, we call out “Lord, have mercy!” And the Lord indeed has mercy upon us through Word and Sacrament. Theologically, this program teaches Law and Gospel. Five lessons accomplish this:

• Lesson 3: Repentance (The Pharisee and the Publican)
• Lesson 4: Forgiveness (Jesus and the adulterous woman)
